SUMMARY:The Personal Reliquary: Your unique reflection on the Sacred
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will decide how to give space to an object or image that carries something of the holy for you. Your reliquary will reflect your unique sense of the Sacred. \nJoin us in creating a small container in which to house an image\, commemorate a special person or pet\, or celebrate a meaningful symbol or idea. \nTraditionally\, a reliquary is a container or shrine in which a sacred relic is housed. \nWe will begin this work by creating a sturdy triptych structure from watercolor paper. We will then embellish this structure with our own meaningful images and objects. The result will be a special piece of art that you will take home as a memento. This object that you carry home with you will represent your own unique expression of reverence. \nThink about what you pray for in these troubled times.  In this workshop you might create a small “home” for these prayers to keep them in your sight daily. Or you might create a reminder of your connection to the Sacred. \nWith thanks to North Carolina artist Dawn Surrat who taught me this paper structure technique and to her teacher\, Alabama artist Doug Baulos\, with whom the structure originated.

SUMMARY:Monthly Mandala Art Group
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy a soothing morning of art making. In these fun and meaningful 2-hour gatherings\, participants learn about mandalas and create their own personal mandalas using a variety of art materials. In this group\, we define mandalas as art that is created in reference to a circle. Making a personal mandala is relaxing.  Making a personal mandala with one’s own inner language and symbols can lead to personal discovery. Following the art making\, participants have time to journal (with prompts) and time for optional sharing. No previous artistic experience or knowledge of mandalas is required! \nSchedule: We begin these groups with a guided meditation.  This is followed by art making.  We then journal with journaling prompts and close with optional sharing. \nYou will leave this session with a memento of the experience\, a personal mandala\, that will continue to unfold in meaning over time. \n$40 per session with advanced registration. To register\, pay via this website (see SHOP).
