The Personal Reliquary: Your unique reflection on the Sacred

July 24 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

In this workshop, you will decide how to give space to an object or image that carries something of the holy for you. Your reliquary will reflect your unique sense of the Sacred.

Join us in creating a small container in which to house an image, commemorate a special person or pet, or celebrate a meaningful symbol or idea.

Traditionally, a reliquary is a container or shrine in which a sacred relic is housed.

We will begin this work by creating a sturdy triptych structure from watercolor paper. We will then embellish this structure with our own meaningful images and objects. The result will be a special piece of art that you will take home as a memento. This object that you carry home with you will represent your own unique expression of reverence.

Think about what you pray for in these troubled times.  In this workshop you might create a small “home” for these prayers to keep them in your sight daily. Or you might create a reminder of your connection to the Sacred.

With thanks to North Carolina artist Dawn Surrat who taught me this paper structure technique and to her teacher, Alabama artist Doug Baulos, with whom the structure originated.
